재미한인과학기술자협회 (회장 이강욱)의 2009년 장학생 모집 요강은 다음과 같다.

2009 KSEA Scholarships for Undergraduate Students in the United States
Objective: To recognize outstanding students with Korean heritage who have excelled in academics and extracurricular activities including community services, and who demonstrate potential for becoming leaders in society.
The objectives of KSEA include:
1. Contribute to the industrial development in the U.S. and Korea through the promotion of science and engineering.
2. Promote cooperation between the U.S. and Korea in science, engineering and technology.
3. Promote and cultivate the next generation of Korean-American scientists and engineers.
4. Contribute to the Korean Community in the U.S.
Scholarship Categories (total number is 15 - 20)
* KSEA Scholarship (multiple): $1000 per award
* Named Scholarship
o Inyong Ham Scholarship (1): $1000 per award
o Hyundai Scholarship (2): $1000 per award
o Chunghi Hong Park Scholarship (2): $1000 per award for women
o Shoon Kyung Kim Scholarship (1): $1000 per award
o Nam Sook & Je Hyun Kim Scholarship (1): $1000 per award
o SeAh-Haiam Scholarship (1): $1000 per award
o Wan-Kyoo Cho Scholarship (1): $1000 per award
* Outstanding Essay Awards (2): $500 - $1000 per award
Eligibility
* Undergraduate students in the U.S. with Korean heritage
* Major in science, engineering, or related fields
* KSEA membership (Students can apply for KSEA membership at the time of scholarship application.)
* Previous recipients of any KSEA scholarship are not eligible.
Application Materials
ALL application materials must be submitted TOGETHER with the exception of recommendation letters and school transcripts.
1. KSEA Scholarship information and online application form are available at http://scholarship.ksea.org/.
2. An essay on one of the following topics (500-1500 words in the online application):
(a) My experience in volunteer activities
(b) Meaning of Korean heritage in my life
(c) My vision on science and technology cooperation between the U.S. and Korea
3. Official transcripts from up to two colleges attended: at least three college semester transcripts are required. For college freshmen, at least one college semester transcript, high school transcripts, and ACT/SAT score report are required. Your school can send soft or hard copies of your transcripts to KSEA (admin@ksea.org electronically or mail to: 1952 Gallows Rd., Suite 300, Vienna, VA 22182).
4. Two recommendation letters: (recommendation letters can be submitted online directly by the references.)
o One or two from college academic advisors or counselors. College freshmen can have one from a high school teacher.
o One from a current or former official of KSEA (an executive committee member, a councilor or local chapter president). This can be one of the two letters but not required.
5. Current resum? (please include work experience and extracurricular activities).

* The recipients of the scholarships will be announced on the KSEA webpage (http://www.ksea.org/) by May 15, 2009.
* Scholarship Presentation:
o The certificate and scholarship fund will be mailed to the KSEA local chapter president by the end of May, 2009. Each chapter can perform their own ceremony for certificate presentation.
o Although no travel expenses are provided by KSEA, the scholarship recipients are encouraged to attend the 2009 US-Korea Conference (UKC) to receive the scholarship certificate at the ceremony in UKC 2009 (Raleigh, NC; July 16-19, 2009).

2009 KUSCO-KSEA Scholarships for Graduate Students in the United States
Objective
To recognize outstanding graduate students who have excelled in the field of science and engineering as well as in extracurricular activities, including community services, and who have demonstrated a potential for becoming leaders in the scientific community for closer cooperation between the U.S. and Korea (Please see the last page for more information on KSEA and KUSCO.)
Scholarship
* Number of recipients: 10-15 persons
* Scholarship fund: $1,500 each
* Potential travel expenses (up to $600) to the 2009 US-Korea Conference (UKC) on Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship in Raleigh, NC, July 16-19, 2009. All scholarship recipients are required to submit an abstract and make poster or oral presentations on their research areas at UKC 2009 when travel expense is provided.
Eligibility
* Graduate students in the U.S. with Korean heritage OR non-ethnic Korean graduate students in the U.S. related to Korea-U.S. science and technology cooperation
* Major in science, engineering, or related fields
* KSEA membership for those students of Korean heritage (Students can apply for KSEA membership at the time of scholarship application.)
* Previous recipients of KUSCO-KSEA scholarships are not eligible.

What is KSEA (http://www.ksea.org)?
KSEA is a 37-year-old non-profit national-level professional organization. It is open for participation to all Korean-Americans who have college degrees in science and engineering fields and cherish the heritage of Korean culture.
The KSEA’s objectives include:
- Promote the application of science and technology for the general welfare of society;
- Foster international cooperation especially between the US and Korea;
- Help Korean-American Scientists and Engineers develop their full career potential;
- Promote and cultivate the next generation of Korean-American scientists and engineers.
KSEA has more than 20 chapters and 13 technical groups covering all major branches of science and engineering. Since its birth in 1971, KSEA has been recognized as the main representative organization promoting the common interests of Korean-American scientists and engineers toward meeting the objectives mentioned above.
KSEA particularly welcomes participation from 1.5th-Generation, 2nd-Generation, and 3rd-Generation Korean-American scientists and engineers including the mixed-race and adoptee communities. KSEA promotes helping younger-generation Korean-Americans to be aware of the rapid advances in science and engineering occurring both inside and outside of the US. Especially, it is helping to create opportunities for Young Generation members to interact with talented scientists and engineers in Korea.
KSEA conducts the following annual activities among others:
- US-Korea Conference (UKC) on Science, Technology, and Entrepreneurship.
- Young-Generation Forum and Technical & Leadership Conference.
- National Mathematics and Science Competition (NMSC) in a nation wide level, and Mathematics & Science Olympiads in a local level.
- Annual KSEA Scholarships.
- Publication of KSEA Letters.
- Local and Regional Activities by Local Chapters (Conferences, Seminars, and Networking Activities).
What is KUSCO (http://www.kusco.org)?
The mission of the Korea-U.S. Science Cooperation Center is to foster cooperative efforts in science and technology between Korea and the United States. The Center seeks to become a strong advocate in promoting Korean research and development (R&D) and in enhancing cooperation with U.S. laboratories. The current trend in R&D is to encourage alliances among foreign and domestic competitors, as well as among industrial, university and government laboratories. In response to this world trend, the Korea-U.S. Science Cooperation Center was inaugurated on February 20, 1997 in Vienna, Virginia.
KUSCO will:
1. Enhance scientific and technological development of both Korea and the U.S.;
2. Support mutual cooperation and initiate joint programs with U.S. and Korean scientific and engineering societies, academic, universities, and other institutions;
3. Assess significant trends in scientific research and technological developments affecting Korea and the U.S.;
4. Examine science and technology issues related to bilateral U.S.-Korea relationships in science, technology and education;
5. Assist young Korean-American and other scientists in developing and maintaining networks addressing matters of scientific and technical interest to the two countries; and
6. Publicize scientific and technologic developments in Korea and the U.S., especially collaborative efforts of scientists and engineers of the two countries, through a wide variety of communications initiatives involving media such as newsletters, Internet sites and e-mail.
