Unaware of the rest of the world, I was spending my Friday playing soccer in the peaceful town of La Crescenta. After coming back from an exciting game of soccer, I was greeted with the news of the terror at the France Stadium. Hundreds of people were injured and another hundred were found dead. This news was quickly followed by news of the funeral bombing in Beirut, earthquake in Japan, and (list another event). Friday the 13th had finally lived up to its name.
In looking specifically at the Paris bombings, I think that ISIS’ goal was toseparate and dishearten people. However, I think more than anything, these bombings unified people not only in France but around the world. During times of chaos, people all around the world should unite to help the lives that have been torn apart by the catastrophic events around the globe. Overarchingly, this attack was not only on France but also was an attack on mankind as a whole.
Friday the 13th was a day of chaos and terroraround the globe; however, in light of all the racial and social discrimination portrayed in the media, it served as a somber reminder that we, as people, are not as different as we think we are. Through these tragedies, we found that we suffer together and comfort together. To respect this day, we should share a moment of silence to respect the fallen and the heroes who put their lives on the line to save others. However, in order to truly honor their lives, we should work harder to put our differences behind us and remember the fallen on this tragic night.
