학교 개강 첫날, Chloe과 Josh가 강의실에서 처음 만나 대화를 시작한다.

Chloe: Hey, do you know anything about this teacher?
Josh: No, it’s my first class with her, but I heard she’s very nice. Tough, but fair.
Chloe: I’m so nervous, I want to make a good first impression.
Josh: Aww, that’s sweet. What’s your name by the way?
Chloe: Oh, sorry! I’m Danielle.
Josh: I’m Josh. Are you from around here?
Chloe: I moved here about a year ago. I’m originally from Kansas, but we moved around a lot. My dad is in the military.
Josh: That’s cool. I was born 10 blocks from here. Never lived outside a 1-mile radius.
Chloe: I’m so jealous! We never stayed anywhere longer than 3 years.
Josh: Classic case of “the grass is always greener.” I would love to experience living somewhere else.

Josh: 멋지다. 난 여기서 10블록 떨어진 데서 태어났어. 여기서 1마일 반경 밖에서 살아 본 적이 없지.
Chloe: 진짜 부럽다! 우린 3년 이상 한 곳에 살아 본 적이 없어.
Josh: ‘남의 떡이 더 커 보인다.’의 전형적인 경우네. 난 다른 데에 가서 살아 보고 싶거든.

개강 첫날 옆자리에 앉은 사람에게 말을 걸 때“Do you know anything about this teacher?”는 아주 자연스러운 질문입니다. Anything about ~ 은 ‘~에 대해 뭐라도 아는 게 있냐’는 의미로, 상대에게 부담 없이 정보를 묻는 표현입니다. “Do you know anything about ~?”은 처음 대화를 시작하기 좋은 질문입니다.
