As the 2016 presidential election progresses, we can see unexpected surprises along the way. Social media has blown up with updates on Donald Trump, and now the 2020 elections appears to be even more interesting with celebrities announcing their possible candidacy.
Two months ago, we were taken aback with Kanye West’s candidacy for president for 2020 at the VMAs. Social media definitely had a say shortly after it was announced. Although people surely applaud him for standing up for the idea that anyone has the potential to run for president, there is still doubt and uncertainty of West’s sincerity in the matter, or whether anyone is taking it in earnest. The indisputable drawback of the rapper is his inexperience in the political field. The possibility is clearly something to think about, but the situation only got more interesting when Lindsay Lohan brought up the prospect of her running for presidency as well. A few days ago, she posted a picture on Instagram, captioning it, “In #2020 I may run for president...let’s do this @kanyewest.” Whether she was just being humorous or not, Lohan has had more than enough trouble with the law to turn this into a possibility. Either way, I can surely say that the elections for 2020 can be an event that both citizens and social media can look forward to.
